Provided Biography:
Joanna was born and raised in Orange County and is a Democrat, a former educator, a nonprofit advocate, businesswoman. She is the founder of Women for American Values and Ethics (WAVE), a nonprofit organization that has been working to protect our democracy and successfully elect Democratic candidates at the local, state, and federal levels nationally and here in Orange County. Joanna has foughtf or Orange County and to elect Democrats to the House – and won!
As a former Adjunct Professor at Chapman University School ofLaw, Joanna has focused her award-winning legal work on pro bono efforts to help domestic violence survivors, seniors on fixed incomes, and special needs students.
A daughter of Orange County, as Founder and Past President of WAVE, Joanna led thousands of residents in protecting abortion,fighting for gun safety, and electing Democrats across the county tothe House. She was a three-year organizing member of Planned Parenthood’s Orange County Women’s March, with attendance peaking at an estimated 20,000 activists. When Roe was overturned,WAVE provided resources to members of organizations to support travel and medication abortions for women in affected states.
She rejects corporate influence in our political process, refuses to take donations from corporate PACs, and will fight for the needs of our families.
Joanna attended Capistrano Valley High School and Saddleback College, graduated from UCLA, and received her J.D. from USC School of Law, where she served as editor of the Southern California Law Review. A proud former Girl Scout and Girl Scout troop leader, Joanna and her husband, Jason, love to surf, hike, and volunteer in the community with their three children, Leah, Will, and Audrey.
