Provided Biography

The daughter of an immigrant and a refugee, Kim Nguyen’s story is the quintessential California tale ofsacrifice, hard work, and dedication to community. As one of eight children raised by her Mexican mother andVietnamese father, Kim learned early on to fight for her accomplishments. She was the first in her family tograduate high school and college. And at just 25, she won a seat on the Garden Grove City Council, becomingboth the first Latina and youngest person ever elected in the city. In 2020, Kim was overwhelmingly re-electedwith more than 70% of the vote.

As a Councilmember, Kim has been a fierce advocate for our neighborhoods— championing new economic development, infrastructure projects, and park rehabilitation in East Garden Grove.

With a focus on public safety, she helped implement a new community policing plan to reduce responsetimes. Kim is a leader on women’s issues, standing up to harassment and seeking equality and justice forwomen throughout Orange County. She has fought to ensure that immigrants in Garden Grove, like hermother, have the dignity and opportunity to thrive in our community.

As your Supervisor I will fight everyday to:

Expand COVID-19 relief and work with our state and federal officials and community groups to increase testing, vaccines and boosters, while ensuring the county supports scientifically proven protections and public health measures

Address Orange County’s housing and homelessness crisis and ensure South Orange County does their fairshare to house our most vulnerable residents.

Work with public safety departments to focus on better community policing practices to keep us safe

Ensure our Fire and Search and Rescue personnel have all the resources they need to respond to increasingwildfires and other climate disasters in Orange County

Work with local leaders to address our exploding substance abuse epidemic while partnering with our community, non-profits, and public health leaders to help prioritize the treatment of mental illness

A lifelong resident of District 2, Kim attended Clinton-Medenhall Elementary, Doig Intermediate, and Santiago High School.  She will bring a much-needed public health background to the county, having formerly worked for CalOptima and now as a Senior Health Care Analyst for a large health plan.
